Affordable Eyeglasses

I was in my kid's school this morning earlier than my usual time to pick her up. I went to the pharmacy after I dropped her off and instead of going home I went to her school straight. There were other Moms already their waiting at the nursery along with siblings of my daughter's classmates. One of the Moms mentioned about her expensive bill from her eye doctor. She had her eyes checked recently and was prescribed for a new eyeglasses.

While on our discussion, I had mentioned to them if they checked online for affordable prescription eyeglasses. I know that there are lots to choose from if you are just diligent enough to research. One good example of this is Zenni Optical. With my research online since before, the brand ZENNI really stood out for their quality, high fashion, and affordable eyeglasses. It will not cost you an arm and a leg to get one. I mentioned this to her and she told me she will check it out.

I learned through my research for affordable eyeglasses also that the affordability of Zenni's eyeglasses is because they manufacture their own products. They do not compromise quality even if their prices are low compared to other providers. Aside from manufacturing their own products, they also have marketing strategy to bring out their product directly to the consumers. They also make sure that their products are of great quality and last long as it is a health necessity aside from just a fashion statement.

I know I will also be needing a reading or prescription glasses soon and I know where to get mine. I already checked their site and found lots to choose from. I am glad this provider of eyeglasses is just a click away, you can get one at the comfort of your house.

Our Girls Have Sniffles

When it comes to the health of our kids I am one worry-wart momma. Our two girls have cough and colds right now and it really bothers me. I am like this every time they don't feel well. Our DD2 first had the colds this past days and then DD1 caught it and she has slight fever as well. Tomorrow will be the third day she has slight temperature and if it will not fade away I will call her Pedia and have her checked.

I monitor her temperature since yesterrday and it fluctuates from 99-101. I am giving her the Tylenol for kids and hopefully it will subside. I did not have enough sleep last night because I was watching her closely. She sleep in her own room now and I have to get up from time to time to check her out.

On Tuesday, if she is still having cough and colds she will have to be absent from school and her gymnastics class. I know she won't like it. Just this morning, when I told her she has to stay home and not go to church because she is not well, she cried. She still want to go to church so we did. I am praying that she will be well enough to go to school on Tuesday.

Extreme Body Workout

I have friends that are really into extreme body workout. As in an insanity workout to the highest level to maintain good physique, lean and firm body. I wish I can do the same but I am always a beginner. I am only good for a start and become lazy later. I have high regard for those that has the stamina and perseverance to continue. I wish I am like them when it comes to working out.

I found this website www.extremebodyworkout.com that offers lots of extreme body workout products. The have this so called Slim in 6 wherein using it will let you become slimmer in just six weeks. It must be very good for that quick result. If you happen to look for something that will work for you, check the site out. I showed it to my husband and he was thinking about the bowflex there that he also seen on tv. We'll see if he will be sold out to it. I don't want him to buy stuff that he will not use for long.

Multiple Sclerosis

I was watching a Filipino news and current affairs show and they featured a young lady who suffered Multiple Sclerosis. The young lady was a college student and is the hope of her family because she is intelligent and her future is very promising according to her parents. They did not know at first what happened to her when she came home from their school field trip and one side of her body became limp and she can hardly move. Because they are poor the family wasn't able to bring her to the hospital for thorough check up.

Good thing when this television network learned of her situation they helped her. She was brought to the hospital and the doctors found out that all she is suffering is an Ms symptoms. She was given proper medication as well as told to follow an Ms Diet in order for her to get better. Due to the family's financial situation they don't know if they can shoulder all the expenses.

I am very moved by how the young girl shows her spirit. Even if her condition is very poorly she still got high hopes. I learned a lesson from her that whatever low the situation we are in there is always hope as long as we believe. We just have to keep our faith. Now I am very curious about Multiple Sclerosis. I found a website that talks all about MS. It is very interesting illness and like any other illness that you don't really want to happen to you.

Rehab Treatment Facility

Nowadays you can hear a lot of news about people abusing prescription drugs and alcohol that are involved in car accidents. Almost everyday on the news about crashes and DUI is the reason. It is a shame that there are innocent people became victims of those driving under the influence. These people should keep away from any vehicles when intoxicated or better yet be admitted to an alcohol treatment center or undergo drug treatment.

Talking about drug rehab or alcohol rehab, a treatment facility in California offers drug rehab services. This rehab center is known to have one of the best alcohol treatment programs. The detoxification process of their patients is best suited for every one's needs. Their rehabilitation facility features alot of activities that can cater to their residents.

I really think that it is best for those people who are into any kind of addiction, drugs or alcohol, to get intervention while they can. It is for their own good, their loved ones as well as for those that they will encounter along the way. So if whoever have loved ones that needs help, check out axis house.net and inquire how they can help you and your loved ones who are suffering addiction to have their life back.

No Milk-Protein Allergy

I went to the hospital this morning to bring in the stool sample of our DD2. The provider checked it and the result came back as negative. I am so glad that she don't have allergy. But still I was told to eliminate those foods I mentioned in my previous post. I will incorporate it back in my diet when she's a little older wherein her little tummy can digest the food I ate. Those food makes her gassy so she gets fussy too. And the provider observed that she may just be a high maintenance baby that is why she cries when she need something. As for the reflux she was given Zantac to be taken twice a day.

Below is an information I got from whattoexpect.com regarding milk allergy.

Milk allergy: With a milk allergy in infants, a baby’s immune system reacts negatively to the proteins in cow’s milk. If the baby is breastfed, he’s reacting to the dairy his mother has eaten (the milk proteins pass through breast milk), and if the baby is formula-fed, he’s reacting to the cow’s milk proteins in the formula. In either case, the immune system sees the cow’s milk proteins as foreign substances, and in its efforts to fend off the invaders, the body releases histamine and other chemicals, which cause allergic symptoms in the body. Symptoms of milk allergies in babies include:

  • Frequent spitting up
  • Vomiting
  • Signs of abdominal pain, or colic-like symptoms, such as excessive crying and irritability (especially after feedings)
  • Diarrhea
  • Blood in stool
  • Lack of weight gain
  • Hives
  • A scaly skin rash
  • Coughing or wheezing
  • Watery eyes and stuffy nose
  • Trouble breathing and swelling (especially of mouth and throat), or even anaphylaxis (which is a life-threatening allergic reaction)

Blogging Absence

It's been eleven days since my last post here. I was busy with my errands, seeing friends and tending to our sick DD. The past week was kinda rough for me. I did a lot of driving going to places. Then Monday night our DD had a fever. I got so scared since there's only the two of us here. I was wondering what caused her fever. I was thinking she must have been tired from our driving almost the whole day while it was very hot and humid. I gave her baby Tylenol and the fever subsided. I gave another dose after four hours and her temperature maintained at 99F. When she woke the next morning she was very hot again. Although she had temperature she was still very active and playing a lot so I did not worry much. Then she started complaining her teeth hurts. When I look at her mouth I saw blisters and her gums kind of swollen. I called her dentist and made an appointment. Wednesday morning when she woke up and her temperature went up to 103F. I decided to call the hospital and made a same day appointment. I went to the hospital at 10am and at 1pm we went to see her dentist.

The doctor that saw her at the hospital prescribed her a mouthwash to apply on her gums every four hours. And he told me to continue to give the Tylenol if her temperature is still up. Her blisters and swollen gums caused her the fever. When we saw her dentist she was really behave. The dentist told me that her gums are really irritated and she has sores in her tongue, sides of her mouth and two on her lips. She told me to brush her teeth gently or just clean her mouth and teeth with gauze dipped in a salt solution. Then this Friday we will go back to the dentist to have her teeth cleaned.

I wasn't satisfied with the consultation at the hospital so I called the triage nurse and asked if I can get another appointment again since our DD's fever kept coming back and she had open sores in her mouth. There was no available schedule at the Army hospital so she referred me off post, at an urgent care clinic. Good thing the clinic is only five minute drive. She has normal temperature already and the doctor evaluated her and based on the symptoms showing, she told me she has a viral infection common with kids. She said it is like foot, hand and mouth disease. But good thing with her she don't have blisters on her hands and feet.

The sores and tender gums are really a discomfort to her especially when she's eating. She had hard time chewing as well as swallowing. Tuesday until Thursday she hardly ate. She was asking for food that she usually eat but once she took a bite she will give it back to me right away and will say "ya-yay" or "ouchi". I gave her liquids, milk, water and diluted apple juice all the time to make sure she's hydrated. At night she wakes up complaining of the pain in her mouth. Ever since she got sick I haven't had a good sleep. Although she doesn't have fever since Thursday night but her discomfort due to her mouth sores makes her fussy and irritable at night. I am very glad that this weekend she started to eat a lot. The sores are starting to fade and her swollen and bleeding gums is also starting to heal. I am just glad that despite her being sick she is still happy and very active. Hopefully this week everything will be okay and her sores will disappear completely.

Our Two Year Old

Our little girl turned two yesterday! Yes, she is now officially two years old and I know we are now slightly, just slight no escalation yet, battling the terrible twos as they say :-) We did not have a party since there's only three of us here and hubby was busy yesterday. So we thought of having a small celebration this weekend. Either we have to buy something and share it at home or go to a restaurant and invite few friends. We are joining together the celebration for my birthday as well :-)

This morning I brought our DD to her 24 month well baby check-up. Everything is great. She is on the right track with her development for a two year old toddler. I think she is typical kid who is afraid of doctors or those that wears white in a hospital or clinic. When we were called to go in our DD knew that she will be checked and she said ba-bye and wave at the nurse, in short she wanted to go home already. We were then told to go in another room to wait for the Peditrician. As soon as we entered the room she said "ah-gi?" - her term for again. She did not cry though until the nurse brought in the vaccine and closed the door. She knew what was coming. Even when the Pedia came in and checked her she was still sobbing and kept saying go and ba-bye. When everything was done she was very polite to say to the Pedia "ten-chu" - thank you - and "ba-bye".

I was glad we did not stay long at the hospital. It was pouring heavily and the drive going home was rough. It wasn't traffic but because of the heavy rain I can't barely see the cars in front of me. I was driving cautiously and stayed at the safe lane the whole time. My passenger, our DD, was complaining of hunger already. It was around 10:30am. She only had milk and a little of PBJ sandwich and I don't have anything yet to eat. I passed by KFC and got my fave grilled chicken meal at the drive thru. We got home safe and glad this check up is all over. It will be a while until her next appointment.

Our DD's Weight Issue

When our DD was about 7 months old she has issue with her weight gain. She is always below average. She was referred to developmental pediatric as well as nutritionist to have her weight assessed. She had blood work done, physicals and other tests and the results are all normal and nothing is wrong. The nutritionist gave her a meal plan and we are following it but her weight gain is very slow. After her first birthday we went to her nutritionist every month and so far everything is doing fine but still she is on the small side. She is a tiny girl, like mommy, but very active and don't get sick easily.

About 6 months ago her schedule to go to the Nutritionist was changed to every two months because she is showing improvement. She gained about 1-2 lbs every month. Our last visit in February, she was 21 month old, her weight went up to 20lbs. I was happy with it because at last she reached 20. Her Nutritionist told me if we can't see any improvement she will be given an appetite stimulant. As much as possible I wanted her to gain weight without resorting to it. Since she is showing improvement the Nutritionist put it off.

Then this morning was her appointment after a month and a half. I got worried again because she barely reaches 21lbs. That means her weight gain from February is really slow even though for me she is eating good compared to last year. But on the upside she is growing. She is between 75 and 90 percentile head circumference, 10-25 percentile of height but below 5th percentile of weight. The Nutritionist assured me that if she is eating good, not sick and growing height-wise, then she is okay. We only need to increase her calorie intake to compensate the calorie she burn from being so active. She is not concerned with any deficiency because her blood work has excellent result.

As a Mom your concern can grow into worry when you see your child is not the same with her peers. I know I should not be worried since the doctor assured me she is healthy. I keep telling myself that she may get her petite frame from me which the doctors are also telling since every tests they've done showed normal results. They told me to just continue of what I've been doing and she will be fine. I went online and read some stories the same as what I am feeling regarding our DD's issue. This gave me assurance that I am not the only one. Two weeks from now will be another weight check for her and hopefully her weight doesn't plateau as what her previous growth pattern have shown.

Sniffles, Sniffles Go Away

Yesterday was the first of the spring season but here in our neck of the woods is still cold. We were out yesterday afternoon and boy I wished I did not have to go to the college to pick up my books and do some errands. It was very cold and while walking out from our apartment unit it was showering a little. Our DD walked going to the car and I know she got cold. When we were finally home around 7pm I noticed her runny nose. When this happens I expect her temperature to rise as well too. True enough, when I put her to bed she kept tossing and turning. Although she is not crying but I felt she had a hard time breathing due to stuffy nose. We had the humidifier with vicks on and I massaged her chest and back with the vick's vapor rub. Around 2am she felt hot and I took her temperature it was 99.8F. I was thinking of giving her baby Tylenol but decided to just give her a sponge and if the temp subsides then she'll be okay. I did the sponge after two hours and when I took her temperature it was already 98F. Right now I know her sniffles and sore throat is bothering her. I just hope it will not get worst. Hubby is also feeling a bit under the weather and is having his dosage of halls. I wish this cold weather will be over soon and the temperature here starts to pick up so we will not deal with the colds anymore.

Serenity

I believe most of us long to have serenity once in our lives or even, if possible, most of our lives. It would be nice to be in a place where you can only hear the water from wall fountains or chirping of the birds and the whistles of the wind. Honestly right now it is what I wished for but I'll just have to imagine it since I know I am far from that situation. Although I can feel the deafening silence at times when our DD is asleep and I turned off the television but I cannot feel the serenity. I wonder if serenity can be achieved by conditioning your mind into it. I think when you do a mental exercise or conditioning then you will be able to live a full, serene life. Embracing the reality and continue to be honest on every situation will enable us to somehow achieve a best life.

Working Abroad

I talked to my niece last week. She is a nurse and she is working in our provincial hospital. She applied to work in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and is lucky that she was able to be accepted to work in one of the hospitals there through the POEA. She said that she is already waiting for her visa which is supposed to be released anytime now and as soon as she gets it their flight will be scheduled. She will not be lonely there since her and her best friend in college will be working in the same hospital. This is her first time to work overseas. She will be leaving her husband behind and their 18 month old little girl in hope to achieve their dreams.

While talking to her I can't imagine that the little girl that I used to take care before is now going in a foreign land to work. She told me that she is not little anymore :-) and in fact is bigger than me in the real sense of the word. She said if I can give her some weight loss pills so while being away she can also loss weight. She gotten heavier after she gave birth and she also hoped that while working overseas, she will be able to shed the excess pounds. I just wish her all the best and to be safe while working abroad. Hopefully after 2 years of her contract there she can move to Canada or even here in the US so she will be near me.

I Feel Bloated

It's been a month now that I really feel bloated :-) Yeah, this means that I can't get enough of grubbing er eating :-) When the new year set on, I vowed to become more healthy and embrace a good life. Now I am healthy but I guess I am also becoming heavier. Although my weight is still appropriate for my height but my belly fat cannot be hidden anymore. We went to the Supermall yesterday and tried on pants at Aeropostale. I took a 3/4 S size pants. The length is okay but the waist line and hip line is a little bit tight. Before our DD, I can fit in a 0 S or 1/2 S pants but now no can do anymore. I guess I need to have the best diet pill that will target these stubborn fats of mine. Hubby told me that I just need exercise to tone down my muscles because I am not heavy literally. I only felt like it since I was used to the very petite, tiny size me before. Oh well, at least I don't look like malnourished anymore.

First Dental Appointment

At last I already brought our DD to the Dentist. Her schedule was this morning. We have been planning to have her checked since she was 12 months old because almost all of her teeth by then were already out. As we all know that once our kids teeth comes out we have to have them check by the dentist.

Another concern why we wanted her to be checked is that some of her teeth, especially the upper and lower incisors are showing some black stain. I was praying she don't have cavity because I've been diligent in cleaning her teeth ever since the first tooth came out.

So, this morning we went to the Dentist. I sat down on the dental chair and put her on my lap while Dr. O checked her teeth. She was so behave and was engrossed watching Wiggles on the flat screen monitor above us. At 20 months I thought we will have a hard time letting her open her mouth but thankfully she cooperated and didn't cry at all. I was so proud of her.

Dr. O said she have a lot of stain in her teeth not only at the front but also at the back. It is very hard too because it will not come off using the probe. She decided to have it polished to remove the stain. I was hesitant coz I am not sure if she is that patient but I decided to have removed. When our DD saw that the assistant was preparing what is needed she started to complain. But when Dr. O started to polish her teeth and the assistant spray and drain the water she stopped fidgeting. I guess she liked the feel of the electric polisher on her teeth. She really did great coz she opened her mouth and we thought we have to come back at another time to clean the back part but Dr. O removed 99% of the stain. She also praised our DD for behaving so well. She told me that she have good teeth and no signs of cavity. I am so thankful that it's only stain and nothing serious.

I really don't know what causes the stain in her teeth but Dr. O said if she is drinking juice, iced tea or eat food that can stain the teeth. She is drinking apple, berry, grape juices and also taking vitamins so it may be the cause of stain in her teeth. I am just glad and happy that now our DD have her pearly white teeth again.

Trim Down my Muffin Top

It is still January but I am already slacking in my goal to trim down my muffin top :-) I am already thinking of getting the help of fat burner pills since this flab of mine is very stubborn. My husband has been asking me to join him going to our complex's gym but the cold winter weather makes me a coward to go out everyday. I have so many alibis every time he asks me. He even brought home set of weights for me to use at home and encourage me to use the yoga DVD but laziness struck me big time :-) Hopefully when the weather gets a little bit warmer, I will start bringing our DD for a daily walk again. I am also thinking of buying an exercise ball to use here at home. Oh man! So many plans and no actions yet :-)

Counseling for Troubled Lives

In our local news this afternoon they reported that a survey was conducted about the happiness of Americans in this time of financial crisis. There were many people who responded and accordingly, the result is very high. There are more people that are unhappy nowadays. I agree that if you are directly affected or even indirectly affected by this global crisis, of course you will be unhappy. A local psychologist was also interviewed and he said that there is an increase of clients for counseling and getting answers on different problems that eating their life out. I guess this is why Counseling Oakland is a big thing now. This is where you need to go if you are troubled and need a professional help. They have expert therapists that will help you in dealing your problems and give you advices. I believe that if we felt something within us and we can't handle it anymore, we don't have to wallow in sorrow and loneliness. We can seek the help of other people and the experts. Counseling Oakland provides many fields of expertise; may it be marriage and family, health and wellness, parenting issues, eating disorders, family problems, and other psychological issues that only professionals can give you answers. So, check them out if you are having troubles. It is very important that is being addressed as soon as possible.

We Need Slimming Pills

This is what my niece was asking me also when I talked to her last night over the phone. Yeah, I agree they need something that will help them lose weight. As in all honesty, when my nieces, my older sister's daughter, were young they're very tiny little girls. My sister kept bringing them to their Pediatrician and they've given different kinds of vitamin supplements to boost their calorie intake. When they were 6 and 4 years old they started to gain weight and it went out of control. We thought they will loose the baby fats when they become adults.

When they're in high school both of them slowly lost some pounds but they're still on the heavy side. When they were in college, since they're both taking up Nursing and it's a very competitive degree, they lost more weight. Now they are both Nurses. The oldest is already married and gave birth and her weight somewhat doubled up of what she used to. The younger sister also gain a lot of weight. I tried telling them to change their lifestyle and plan a good and healthy diet to think they are in medical field. I am also looking into giving them Leptovox to help in burning body fat. I love them so much I don't want them to endure being obese all their lives.

Sniffles Gone

Last week, November 30th after our trip to Seattle, I noticed our DD has sniffles. I know right there and then it will develop into something I really don't like, cough and colds. True enough, after few hours of playing the sniffles became runny nose. Since there is really no remedy for common colds, as what her Pedia told me, so I just gave her more fluids. I even made chicken soup and gave it to her during her meals.

Come Monday morning, when she woke up, the barking er coughing started. I checked her temperature and thankfully it's normal. After three days when it didn't subside I called the clinic and talked to a nurse. I told her everything and she said to continue what I did and after 7 days that there's no progress I have to bring her in for check up.

I really thought she will not recover soon because the coughing sounded worst. But thankfully, this weekend, her colds dried up and her coughing faded. It is really a relief knowing that her immune system is able to fight her cough and cold. Hand washing is also important to prevent transfer of germs from one place to another. I just gave her more fluids and every time I change her shirt I rub her back and chest with vicks vaporub. I also turn on the humidifier with vicks every time she is in her room sleeping. It helps in decongesting her clogged nasal passages.

This is what I don't like with winter time; the kids can easily catch colds. It is very important to bundle them up with thick clothing before you get out of the house. I am glad that she won't complain now when I put on thick jacket on her unlike before that I have to struggle. So, since her sniffles' gone already I will not bother to call the clinic anymore :-) Thank God!

Slightly Hot

Our DD woke up late this morning because she woke up around 3am. She was tossing and turning while in her bed. I noticed she was having some discomforts. When I touched her face she is kind of hot. I did not bother to take her temperature because the heater is on so maybe it is just the temperature in the room. She went back to sleep though but from time to time she moved. Because she sleep on and off she woke up around 11am.

After I fed her and changed her she is still hot a little bit but she is sweating. I really don't know if she has a slight fever or not. But when I checked her temperature it's normal. Maybe it is just the changing temperature here. I need to observe her, check her temperature from time to time and give her more fluids to cool her off and keep her hydrated. The least I want to happen is having a sick baby. As much as possible I don't want her to get sick :-)
