The world's largest crayon was unveiled in Liberty County - Hinesville, Georgia. I heard the news in our local television about this and it is very impressive because they are recycling the used and old crayons that they collected to create the 10 feet plus crayon. They started making this crayon since spring and all the kids/students as well as the people there in Liberty County are very proud and excited about. Right now they are the Guinness world record holder for the largest crayon in the world.
Speaking of crayon, I bought our DD this begginer crayon with a big handle. She liked it because it looks like a toy but she can use it to doodle. The only thing is that she will still try to put it in her mouth. When I catch her doing it she will throw it away though. Then I bought her the regular crayons. I am glad that she is not bending it (yet) but she is starting to scribble on the floor, carpet and wall. Ughh...I need to get her a board where she can scribble to her heart's content and not just anywhere in the house.

Deadly Baby Formula
Have you heard about the baby formula in China that was contaminated with a chemical used for making plastic? That was horrible because there were many babies affected by it. It was also reported that some of the parents are buying their baby formula in HongKong to avoid buying the contaminated ones. This is why I am really careful in buying food for our DD. We do not know how it is made and what it went through during the process. I am hoping that this will not happen again and the manufacturers should be liable for what happened.
Bisphenol A - BPA
Bisphenol A is a chemical used in baby bottles and other drinking bottles. There are now reports I heard about its hazardous effect but the association of plastic makers are assuring the public that it is safe and there is nothing to worry about it. There are still conflicting research result of it and question if its effect to lab mice is also the same as in humans. As a Mom it makes me anxious hearing such report because I have a developing baby. She is still very vulnerable to anything that she inhales, eat or drink. I hope that this chemical really don't have effect on them because it is so fearful to know that we are using these baby bottles or cups and we are unaware that it already pose a hazard to them.
Don't Leave Kids Alone
The other day I heard in our local news that a 9 month old baby died in the bathroom. Accordingly, the baby was in the tub when the Mom went to the kitchen to prepare the baby's bottle. When she got back in the bathroom the baby is already unresponsive and the EMT were not able to revive the baby. Then just now in the news again a toddler almost burn alive when an apartment building was on fire. Accordingly, the Mom went out to get food at Arby's which is a mile and a half away leaving the kid sleeping in the bedroom. It's only 15 min when she got back and the apartment was on fire. Hearing such stories made me cringe because I also have a little toddler. I am with her 24/7 and even if I go pee in the bathroom I will bring her with me. I am afraid leaving her behind. We just can't leave our kids alone because things happen in unexpected ways.
Young Pinoy Inventors
I have seen on TFC news that there will be young Pinoy inventors who will join the competition for Intel Young Inventors that will be held in Atlanta, GA this coming May 2008. This is another way of showing to the world that Filipino don't just have talent but also intelligence. These young Pinoy inventors comes from different high schools all over the Philippines. Maybe when we are still in Georgia I may go to the convention and watch and support these young kids. But all I can do now is still support them through my prayers that they will go home as victors in this grand competition.
Pregnant Man
I was watching our local news early this evening and it was reported that a man from Bend, Oregon is 22 weeks pregnant. My thoughts right away is that he is a transgender man and I was right. The report said that he was a woman before and change his physical appearance into a man but did not have his reproductive organs removed or changed. He can still carry a baby through artificial insemination. The neighbors are saying that it may be a hoax or something since they didn't see him having a preggy bump. I heard this kind of news in the Philippines before but I didn't see it actually on tv.
Listening to Parents
I was watching a local news and there was this lady celebrating her 107th birthday. If I am not mistaken she is the oldest woman in Seattle. She was asked of what is her secret of long life. She just simply said listening to parents. It is a sound tip and secret. Our parents are only doing what is best for us. If not for them we will not be here. And now that I am also a parent I want to make sure that my kids will look up to me and will listen to me because I also just want what is best for them in the future. I am praying to God that they will grow up respectful and humble and not overstep on other people. It will be a great joy to see that they are growing well and successful.
Caffeinated Cities
When I got here in Washington I realized that there were so many coffee, espresso, capuccino stand I saw in their cities. Then it dawned on me that this is a windy and cold state to live. Presumably those who lives here needs warmth to fight against the coldness of nature, literally. In our apartment complex, right outside the gate there is a drive thru coffee stand which for sure will be frequented by hubby.
Then this morning while browsing online it was featured on Yahoo news cities that the poll said most caffeinated. Top of the list is Seattle. That answered my questions why there are so many drive thru coffee stands and cafe lattee and the likes. Chicago also tops the most caffeinated city in US. The caffeine comes either from coffee, chocolates and colas. Other cities on the list are Tampa, Miami, Phoenix and Atlanta as the most caffeinated. New York, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Detroit it says that is the least caffeinated.
Toddler in Dryer
I slept past midnight and hubby stayed a couple of hours watching news. When we woke up this morning around 9am the first thing he told me is about the news about a step-father putting his girlfriend's 2 year old daughter in clothes dryer. His reason was because she started hollering when he's giving her a bath. He became mad. He said he can't believe he did it. Hello! How on earth can a paerson do such a thing. That is very horrific to see. The toddler is alive and suffered a 1st and 2nd degree burns. The Mom knew about it when the next morning the little girl asked for bandaged. She told the Mom she was put in a dryer. Just by imagining the scene made my heart wrenched in pain to what the little girl had suffered. Even if you are extremely mad I believe nobody has the right to do such a thing. It's horrendous. That is just a heartless thing to do. My husband was kinda mad hearing that news too. There are just too many weird people out there.
