On October 4 I brought the kids to their dental appointment. DD1 first had her teeth cleaned and polished. She did really great. The hygienist did not have a hard time getting the x-ray and cleaning her teeth. Even the dentist who checked her teeth after did not take long to see her teeth because she was very cooperative.
For DD2, it was her first time. She is 17-month-old so I was expecting she will cry and won't open her mouth. One thing that will really make her cry though was when I will ask her to open her mouth especially if she is eating and have a big bite of food. So when the dentist ask her to open her mouth, at first she was hesitant. I was helping her and with a little prodding, she opened her mouth and the hygienist was able to polish and put fluoride on her teeth.
The dentist visit was great with no crying babies. They did great and they deserved the stuffed toys that they got from the dental office. I am so proud of them and I am hoping for next visits DD2 will be used to it already.

DD's Third Dental Visit
When our daughter turned a year old I already brought her to the dentist so her teeth be checked and cleaned. I was concerned back then since her teeth, especially the front ones have stain. I was very glad that after the dentist cleaned and polished it, the stains were gone. The second dental visit was after 6 months. We had it scheduled before we left for Philippines in July 2009. Everything was okay except that she has a small cavity in her molars. The dentist referred us to a Pediatric Dentist so it will be treated immediately. I asked how the treatment is done and I was told she will be put to sleep so they can do the cleaning and filling. She's still 2 years old and I am afraid of having to put her to sleep with anesthesia at a young age. I prefer to wait until she's a little older to have it done.
Her cleaning appointment was on the 26th last month. As usual she was very cooperative. She opened her mouth big but when the dentist spray water and suction it, she did not like it at all. After the cleaning and polishing, DD said, "I don't like the water Mommy; No, no water Mommy". I was glad she complained of it after and did not make a scene during the process. I asked the dentist about the cavity and I was told it's still the same. I told her my plan of waiting and she said it's okay as long as it's not bothering her and I have to take care of her teeth so it will not get worse. My plan is to wait for hubby to be here so we both can be there when that procedure is going to be done.
DD's Second Dental Visit
She was asked to open her mouth big and she complied as told. Good girl indeed :-) She got a Tigger stuffed toy afterward being so good during the process. She will have another appointment in January 2010.
First Dental Appointment
At last I already brought our DD to the Dentist. Her schedule was this morning. We have been planning to have her checked since she was 12 months old because almost all of her teeth by then were already out. As we all know that once our kids teeth comes out we have to have them check by the dentist.
Another concern why we wanted her to be checked is that some of her teeth, especially the upper and lower incisors are showing some black stain. I was praying she don't have cavity because I've been diligent in cleaning her teeth ever since the first tooth came out.
So, this morning we went to the Dentist. I sat down on the dental chair and put her on my lap while Dr. O checked her teeth. She was so behave and was engrossed watching Wiggles on the flat screen monitor above us. At 20 months I thought we will have a hard time letting her open her mouth but thankfully she cooperated and didn't cry at all. I was so proud of her.
Dr. O said she have a lot of stain in her teeth not only at the front but also at the back. It is very hard too because it will not come off using the probe. She decided to have it polished to remove the stain. I was hesitant coz I am not sure if she is that patient but I decided to have removed. When our DD saw that the assistant was preparing what is needed she started to complain. But when Dr. O started to polish her teeth and the assistant spray and drain the water she stopped fidgeting. I guess she liked the feel of the electric polisher on her teeth. She really did great coz she opened her mouth and we thought we have to come back at another time to clean the back part but Dr. O removed 99% of the stain. She also praised our DD for behaving so well. She told me that she have good teeth and no signs of cavity. I am so thankful that it's only stain and nothing serious.
I really don't know what causes the stain in her teeth but Dr. O said if she is drinking juice, iced tea or eat food that can stain the teeth. She is drinking apple, berry, grape juices and also taking vitamins so it may be the cause of stain in her teeth. I am just glad and happy that now our DD have her pearly white teeth again.
The Cuspids
Our DD have 16 teeth in all right now. She is missing 4 more teeth consisting of the upper cuspids or commonly known as the canine teeth or eye teeth, this is called 'bangkil' in my Visayan dialect, and the second molars. My Mom told me that once it is coming out most babies will really have a hard time coping the pain.
I am glad that the 16 teeth that came out of our DD's gum came out without too much of a hassle. Only now that the upper cuspids is about to come out that she is whining, salivating, and wakes up in the middle of the night crying. My consolation is that she still eats and don't have temperature. Although dealing with her at this time is not really terrible but I hope that it will come out soon so we both can sleep through the night.
I researched online and got this info at WebMD. The child's mouth contains 20 temporary teeth, called primary teeth, baby teeth, or deciduous teeth, consisting of the following teeth types:
- 4 second molars
- 4 first molars
- 4 cuspids
- 4 lateral incisors
- 4 central incisors

Baby Teeth
Our DD is already 15 months old and she now has 16 primary teeth or we commonly called baby teeth. When her first two incisors at the bottom appears she did good. There were times that she became cranky especially when the gums swell and the teeth is about to come out. She also had slight fever back then but no more than it. I am very thankful that she is very brave and strong to handle it. The rest of her teeth that came out I only noticed when it was already out like her molars on the top and bottom. I hope when the rest comes out she will still be strong and there will no major setback that will happen.
Toothless No More
Yesterday I got my temporary partial and I got back my smile again. I have no teeth since Monday until late evening yesterday. I left my old partial at the dental clinic because they added another one to it. It is still temporary though because I will have a different one once I am finished with all my dental works. I have another appointment again this coming 21st. Instead at 3pm they moved it at 11am because they will do the filling and the cleaning and planing. I will stay at the clinic approximately 2.5 hours for that work. Then by January 2nd I will have another appointment again for getting an impression for the permanent denture. Huh! Just too many appointments. I can't wait to get it done.
Different Dentist
Yesterday was my fourth dentist appointment and I was seeing the 4th Dentist in that clinic eversince I went there for my dental work. It is a group dental clinic so whoever specializes for a certain dental work they are the one to see you. For my first check it was an assessment, x-ray, and likes, a lady dentist saw me. I was then scheduled for extraction and a guy dental surgeon did it. After a week I was scheduled for two dental fillings. Another guy dentist did it and he will be doing my next two fillings on the 21st. Then yesterday I had my 4th appointment doing the impression for adding a tooth on my partial denture. A lady who specializes in making dentures saw me. She's the fourth dentist who sees me. Later today I will go back to the clinic and get my partial. Hopefully the addition is done nicely. This is my first one made here in the US. I am excited to have my denture back again.
Tooth Extraction
I will have my dentist appointment for tooth extraction this evening. Man, it has been long since I had my last teeth extraction. I just want this done so I can have my new partial dentures. Right now I have a missing tooth and it is so embarrassing to smile without a tooth. That is why I don't like taking picture of myself nor don't like my picture taken because I don't like my smile. I can't wait to have my new set of partial and have my beautiful smile again.
Dental Check-up
This afternoon I went to see my dentist. Since it was my first appointment here I had my teeth/gums x-rayed and the dentist assessed what are the procedures needed to be done. First, I will have an extraction for my upper front teeth, the one that the filling was lost and broke off. And I will have four fillings and three sides deep root planing. After everything is done I will have my partial (5 teeth) denture replaced with additional one. Most of the procedures our insurance will pay 80% but the cast base (partial) the insurance will only pay 50%. My next appointment will be next week for extraction. I just want this dental work be done soon.
Dental Expense
Yesterday hubby got off work early and we went out looking for a dentist. I needed an overhaul with my teeth. This dental work is long overdue. I always put it off. We are covered with our dental insurance but still the co-pay is very expensive. I needed one extraction and new dentures. I am wearing a 5 teeth denture plus a new addition hopefully. The last time in Georgia, the price quoted by my dentist less our insurance coverage is almost $700 just for one dental work - root canal and new crown (for a tooth). Golly it's more than enough as downpayment for a property in the Philippines. I didn't go for it yet because it is very expensive for me. And now hubby told me I need to have it done before he leaves for deployment. So we found one yesterday and tis afternoon I will have my first dental check. Hopefully everything will be alright. I will just close my eyes when we get the bill.
